One of my favourite things in sewing is binding. I know people often hate doing it, but I find it very relaxing.
I thought I'd post a brief on how I do it. The first time I did it was not a success as I had no idea how to do it. I used really thin binding, did both sides at once and used white thread on deep pink binding! It looked awful :/
Onwards and (hopefully) upwards!
I firstly open out the binding and pin along the edge on the wrong side.
Next sew - I know lots who sewists who all sew it different. I've found the easiest way is to sew half way between the first fold and the upper edge, nice and slowly.
Next I fold the binding over to the right side, with the other edge folded in still. Pin.
I use a longer stitch for the top stitching on the binding.
On my machine 00 is a straight stitch, 3.5 is the needle position (middle here) and 3.0 is the stitch length (2.2 is default on my machine).
I then stitch as close to the edge of the binding as I can. The way I try to get it as neat as I can manage is to take it nice and slowly.
As this was for a pocket I needed to sew down the bits sticking up, to ensure the binding doesn't fray.
Voila, I do find it so very relaxing. These are pockets for a dottie angel frock. I will be doing a how I did .... post on this soon :)
Enjoy your binding :)
